Les alliages d’aluminium série 5000 appartiennent au groupe alliage de magnésium. C’est un alliage qui ne permet pas de traitement thermique mais offre une forte ténacité, une haute résistance à corrosion et une grande usinabilité. Cette série se caractérise par une bonne apparence après le traitement d'anodisation et une bonne performance en soudage. Elle est largement appliquée dans les bateaux, l’automobile, les avions, les rails légers de métro, les unités de réfrigération et les pièces de missiles.
